    • The events of Star Trek: First Contact. The Battle of Sector 001 occurs with a Starfleet Task Force engaging in a running battle with a Borg cube en route to Earth. The USS Defiant (NX-74205) is severely damaged but not destroyed, with the crew evacuated to the Enterprise.

    • Still unaware that the USS Voyager is stuck in the Delta Quadrant, Starfleet officially declares the ship lost with all hands.

    • Tensions between the Alpha and Gamma quadrants erupt into open warfare, igniting the Dominion War fully.

Prelude-

Captain Elle Jellico stood in front of a port window in the corridor of the station. Her gaze was lost of the vacuum of space beyond the station. She blinked as a work bee flew close to the window proximity. The shuttle drew her focus to the Onimaru in dock. A Norway-class vessel recently brought in for a reassignment and minor updates. She remembered the padd in her left hand from the weight it carried. The content was the new crew manifest, ship schematics and a mission outline for her two-year outline.

Starfleet had taken a beating all about and it was times like these that she was trained for, but now being here seemed surreal. Six months ago the Borg ran an assault on Earth directly and the Dominion War engulfed a corner of the galaxy.

Things seemed far to unhinged, this was a time in which Starfleet would need a more tougher touch.  Her combadge chirped. “Onimaru to Captain Jellico.” The female Andorian officer voice said.

She reached up her right hand and lightly tapped her communicator. “Jellico here, go ahead Lieutenant.”

“Captain we are about ready for a system wide power up. I thought you would like to know so that we can keep on schedule for a 72-hour departure on time. Additionally we have received all cargo and non-personnel materials which have been all properly stored.” Then there was a pause.

“Understood, thank you Lieutenant Zota. I am en-route to the Onimaru please inform engineering that we are to prepare for a power up shortly.” Zota Zh'rharrel was in line to become a fine officer. Jellico knew that she was appreciative to have recruited the officer. Zota was an Ensign on the USS Appalachia during the battle of Sector 001. Her reassignment was due to her direct experience with the Borg and her bravery in aiding her fellow officers. Over the past weeks, they have been planning ways of increasing the ships survival n an encounter with the Borg.

“Aye Onimaru out.” The communication ended.

Jellico turned away from the window slowly, taking in an outside view of the ship once more, as if to hold this moment in memory. She marched forward and looked straight ahead. Things would undoubtedly change but in times like this, change can be survival.

MISSION OBJECTIVES

In an era of starship ubiquity, the USS Onimaru is among the few exceptions, with a narrow range of missions this class of starship is designed for. Scientific and Diplomatic missions are the primary roles of Norway Class starships, though it may be called to perform other functions from time to time

Missions for the Onimaru may fall into one of the following categories, in order of her strongest capable mission parameter to her weakest mission parameter.

  • Ongoing Scientific Investigation:  The Onimaru is equipped with scientific laboratories and a wide variety of sensor probes and sensor arrays, as well as the state-of-the-art dorsal subspace sensor assembly; giving her the ability to perform a wide variety of ongoing scientific investigations.

  • Federation Policy and Diplomacy: The Onimaru's secondary role is the performance of diplomatic operations on behalf of Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets. These missions may include transport of Delegates, hosting of negotiations or conferences aboard in the vessel’s Conference Hall, courier for important people and/or items, and first contact scenarios.

  • Contact with Alien Lifeforms: Pursuant to Starfleet Policy regarding the discovery of new life, facilities aboard the Onimaru include a variety of exobiology and xenobiological suites, and a small cultural anthropology staff, allowing for limited deep-space life form study and interaction.

  • Tactical/Defensive Operations: Though not designed primarily for battle, the Norway Class –like all Starfleet vessels– is designed to be resilient and ably armed. When needed, missions for the Onimaru include patrol and interdiction, as well as escort.

  • Patrol and Interdiction:  Typical missions include the patrol of established neutral zones, shipping lanes and recognized regions of dispute and/or conflict.

  • Emergency/Search and Rescue: Typical Missions include answering standard Federation emergency beacons, extraction of Federation or Non-Federation citizens in distress, retrieval of Federation or Non-Federation spacecraft in distress, small-scale planetary evacuation - medium or large scale planetary evacuation is not feasible.

  • Deep-space Exploration: The Onimaru is equipped for long-range interstellar survey and mapping missions and explore a wide variety of planetary classifications.
